Celebrations of 76th Anniversary of the Republic Day of India


The Embassy of India in Bamako celebrated the 76th Anniversary of the Republic Day of India on 26 January 2026 with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour through two distinct events, a morning Flag Unfurling Ceremony and an evening National Day Reception.


2. The celebrations commenced in the morning with a Flag Unfurling Ceremony held at Bharat Bhawan, attended by members of the Indian diaspora, Indophile associations, and friends of India in Mali. Ambassador Dr. N. Nandakumar, unfurled the National Flag of India and delivered the H.E. Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India’s address to the nation. The ceremony was followed by patriotic cultural performances by members of the Indian diaspora and Indophiles, featuring renditions of “Vande Mataram”, “Saare Jahan Se Achcha”, and other patriotic songs, which added vibrancy and patriotism to the celebration. The theme of the celebration was 150 years of Vande Mataram. Accordingly, an exhibition on the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ was also organized.


3. In the evening, the Embassy hosted a National Day Reception at the Radisson Collection Hotel, Bamako. H.E. Mr. Mossa Ag Attaher, Hon’ble Minister for Malians Living Abroad and African Integration of Mali, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was warmly received by the Ambassador.


4. Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Mr. Mossa Ag Attaher conveyed the warmest congratulations of H.E. Army General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition and Head of State of Mali, to H.E. Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India, as well as to the Government and people of India.

Ambassador spoke about the glorious achievements made by India, especially, in the last 10 years under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to become the world’s fourth largest economy. He expressed Government of India’s readiness to further strengthen its friendly ties with Mali. 


6. Commemorating the 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’, children belonging to the School of the Malian Union of the Blind, Faladie performed a soulful rendition of the national song of India. They also performed the patriotic song “Saare Jahan Se Achcha”. Further, the Embassy of India in Mali had curated an exhibition tracing the important role played by ‘Vande Mataram’ in India’s freedom struggle. 


7. The National Day Reception provided an opportunity to share the joy of India’s Republic Day with the distinguished guests from Malian government, National Transition Council (CNT), Malian industry and businesses, members of Diplomatic corps and International organizations based in Bamako, civil society, press and media, and members of Indian diaspora. The event received wide media coverage, including by Mali’s National Television channel ORTM and leading Malian media outlets such as L’Essor, L’Indépendant, Le Républicain, Ghandhi TV, and Ségou OK TV, further enhancing the visibility of the celebrations and India–Mali relations.
