Celebration of the 11th Ayurveda Day in Bamako

The Embassy of India, Bamako in collaboration with the National Institute for Research on Traditional Medicine and Pharmacopoeia (INRMPT), Bamako organized a webinar on “Ayurveda for Healthier Tomorrow” on 23 September 2026 to celebrate the 11th Ayurveda Day. The webinar was held at the premises of Institute for Human Sciences, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Government of Mali. On the sidelines of the webinar, a poster exhibition on Ayurveda and its concepts was also held.
2. Ambassador of India in Mali Dr. N. Nandakumar graced the event as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Rokia SANOGO, Director General of INRMPT and Prof. Dr. Baba Coulibaly, Director of the Institute of Human Sciences were the other distinguished guests of the celebration. Prof. Dr. G.G. Gangadharan, renowned Ayurveda practitioner, researcher and author, and Prof. Dr. Leena P. Nair, Professor and Head, Amrita School of Ayurveda, Amrita Vishwa Vidhyapeetham, Kollam were the distinguished speakers of the webinar. Researchers, practitioners of traditional medicine in Mali, members of the Moringa Association of Mali etc., were among the guests.
3. Prof. Dr. Rokia SANOGO welcomed the participants of the webinar and expressed gratitude to the Embassy of India in Bamako for providing an opportunity to host the 11th Ayurveda Day celebration in her institute. Ambassador Dr. N. Nandakumar in his keynote address explained that the science of Ayurveda was about 3000 years old having its origin in the ancient texts of vedas. He called upon the audience to make Ayurveda a part of their daily life by taking Ayurvedic principles to one’s kitchen and incorporating them in one’s daily routine.

Various topics discussed at the webinar included basic Ayurvedic principles of Vata, Pitta, Kapha, Agni, Ama and their role in causing illness, a comparison of plants species and products used in traditional medicine in India and Mali, the concept of Nidra and mental health, advanced and unique concepts of Ayurveda viz., Ama, Shatkriyakala, Vega Dharana, Viruddhahara, etc. Prof. Dr. G.G. Gangadharan made a thought provoking presentation on the unique concepts of Ayurveda. He explained Ayurvedic principles for diagnosis and treatment of some of the common chronic and acute illnesses while emphasizing that there was a large scope for further research on the science of Ayurveda. Prof. Dr. Leena P. Nair made an impactful presentation bringing out the shared heritage of traditional medicine, medicinal plants and millets between India and Mali, and how they can pave the way for both nations to collaborate on Ayurveda.
5. On the sidelines of the celebration, Embassy had also organized a poster exhibition on Ayurveda, bringing pictorial explanations of some of the basic concepts and principles of Ayurveda to Malian audience. Posters on Indian institutions like National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) were also on display along with the quotable quotes from the leadership of India on Ayurveda.
