Celebration of the 80th Independence Day of India in Mali 

On 15 August 2026, the Embassy of India in Bamako celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India in a grand manner with patriotic fervor and traditional festivities. The celebration was made memorable by the enthusiastic participation of the members of Indian community in Mali, representatives of the Govt. of Mali, Hon’ble members of the National Transition Council, members of the India-Mali Friendship Association, artists, cultural personalities, friends of India and Mali from all walks of life, members of diplomatic corps, press and media, Embassy officials, staff and their family members. 

2. The programme commenced with soulful rendition of the national song of India, ‘Vande Mataram’ by the participants. Ambassador of India to Mali H.E. Dr. N. Nandakumar unfurled the national flag and read out the address of the Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu delivered to the nation on the eve of the Independence Day.  

3. The colourful cultural performances presented by the children of Indian community and members of India-Mali friendship association for the patriotic songs of India made the celebration memorable. An exhibition on the history and momentous role played by the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ in India’s freedom struggle was also organized during the celebration. 

4. Embassy had the honour of hosting the winners and participants of the special Independence Day edition of the ‘Bharat ko Janiye Quiz’ from Mali as well as Malian artists and members of Indian community who had enthusiastically participated in the ‘Viksit Bharat’ painting workshop and online Madhubani painting workshop. These activities were organized as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations by the Mission on 11 August 2026. The paintings made by them were displayed at the celebration venue for the larger appreciation of the participants. Ambassador Dr. N. Nandakumar felicitated the winners and participants with prizes and certificates of appreciation.
